Runs |
Runs |
Our dogs runs are used during times of injury or for female dogs that are in the breeding part of their heat cycle who we either do not want to get bred on that heat cycle or who we are breeding but only want to make sure that she is mated to the correct dog. Our dogs are not contained in these runs on a regular basis. The runs are adjoining our quonset and each run is connected to its own dog box that acts as shelter and is filled with straw for warmth.
Dog yard #1 |
Dog yard's #3 & #4, pasture beyond |
Our Dog Yards are large treed areas that are fenced in to allow our dogs to run and play as much as they want. Each dog yard has a shelter for the dogs to go in to in case of bad weather or just to take a rest. The dog yards are all well shaded to protect the dogs against the strong summer sun. Each dog yard will have about 3 adult dogs in it at a time so that they have other dogs to play with.

We have 80 acres of land;some of it grass with treed areas and some land that is farmed by our neighbour. Our dogs and the puppies we raise love to go out on the trails to explore. Weather pemitting we take all of our litters of puppies on daily adventures around our property.

Home |
Birthing room |
This is a quiet room that is adjoining our living room where the mother dog births her puppies and also where puppies spend a lot of their time during the first 3 weeks of life. The mother dog has the comfort of the whole room and if she needs time away from her puppies she has space to walk around or if tired can relax on the chair . In the cooler months we also put a heater on in the room to make sure that the temperature stays really warm for the puppies. The birthing room is only separated from our living room by a screen door so the puppies get all the noises of our daily lives. Once the puppies start to spend some time playing outside(once they are 3-4 weeks of age) they will only return to the birthing room at night to sleep.
North puppy yard |
North puppy yard |
When the Puppies are 3-4 weeks of age they start to spend time outside during the day. They enjoying have more room to run around and get used to the different noises outside such as other dogs, airplanes, and cars going by. At this time we also start introducing the puppies to gunfire and birds. The mother stays with her puppies while they are in this yard so that she can protect them and also feed them when they need to nurse. There is a dog crate that typically has straw in it where the puppies like to go to sleep. In the summer months, however, the mother dog usually digs them a nice hole where the puppies will all go to sleep to stay cool.
South puppy yard |
South puppy yard |
When the puppies are approximately 5 weeks old they move to the South Puppy Yard. This yard is larger and gives them more room to run around. We also put toys in there for them to play with. This yard is treed and also has a straw filled crate for them to sleep in if they desire. The mother dog will stay with the puppies until they are 6 weeks of age at which point we will start to wean the puppies from mom.
